Every major airline has an airline credit card associated with it that you can get to help you rack up miles.   Airline credit cards basically work in giving you a certain amount of miles from purchases you make with the card.   A lot of credit cards offer small bonuses to encourage you to use the card, such as cash back or points to use with certain stores, and airline credit cards are just like these except the reward is miles.   If you accumulate enough travel miles, you can cash in on a free ticket, so its not such a bad bonus at all.   It’s definitely better than nothing.  While you never really get a lot of miles using an airline credit card with any one purchase, they do tend to add up and before you know it you’re well on your way to a free ticket.

Most of the miles I get are from taking actual flights, but when I buy my tickets using an airline credit card it becomes a lot more miles. If you do air travel on a regular basis, it’s definitely worth looking into getting an airline credit card.  I take around three international flights a year, and combined with all my purchases on my airline credit card, I usually end up with a free ticket about once a year.  Which airline credit card you get is of course up to you, and should have to do with whatever airline you think you’d use the most often.  Personally, I like the airline credit cards that work with the American Airlines AAdvantage program.   American Airlines is a good all around airline, and while it isn’t my favorite in terms of service, it has flights to and from just about everywhere I’d need to go.

Whatever bank you use probably has airline credit cards available for you to sign up for from them. They’re also advertised all over the web, so its easy to find a way to sign up for one.  The important thing is to make sure it’s an airline that has flights going to areas that you want to go.  So go sign up for airline credit cards to maximise your travel budget today.
